Ice Hockey drops battle with No. 2 Boston College
CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts - No. 2 Boston College defeated the American International College ice hockey team 5-0 in nonconference play on Friday, October 18.
AIC is now 0-3-1 on the season.
Prior to the contest, the Eagles held a special ceremony in rememberance of Tony Voce, Johnny Gaudreau, and Matthew Gaudreau, former Boston College hockey stars who all passed away over the summer. The Yellow Jackets joined the Eagles in wearing special stickers on their helmets with the jersey numbers of the trio of players.
The Eagles got on the board first as Aram Minnetian, a Dallas Stars draft pick, lit the lamp at 9:04. New York Rangers first rounder Gabe Perreault then converted a power play, lighting the lamp from the right dot at 15:20.
In the third, Will Vote finished a tic-tac-toe passing play at 4:05, and Utah Hockey Club draftee Will Skahan scored on a point shot just 21 seconds later. James Hagens, who is currently projected as one of the top overall picks in the 2025 NHL Draft, potted the fifth and final Eagles goal at 16:09.
Despite the score, AIC performed well in many aspects of the game. The Yellow Jackets went 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and blocked a dozen shots, ultimately holding the Eagles to just 31 on target over the contest.
"I liked our third period in terms of...we're playing to get better inside of our season," said Head Coach Eric Lang in a postgame press conference. "Iron sharpens iron...there's times we've been in the NCAA Tournament getting out of the gates 0-5-1, 0-4-2. This is not uncharted territory for us...we've always subscribed, 'if you don't play them you can't beat them,' and these games make us better in the long haul," he added.
AIC opens up at the MassMutual Center and in Atlantic Hockey America play on Friday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m. against the Air Force Academy in the first of two.
