SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - In a game of close calls and excellent saves, the goalkeepers kept the scorebook empty for American International College men's soccer and Mercy University, as the teams ended 0-0 on Wednesday, September 13.
AIC is now 0-1-3 on the campaign.
Mercy had control for much of the early stages of the game, but could not solve Lucas Morales-Fernandez, who made six saves out of his nine for the game inside the opening half.
In the second, AIC came close twice. A redirect on a low cross pass by Ali Taleb deflected off of the right post and out in the eightieth minute, and barely a minute later, a blast from the right side of the box by Manuel Schwarz hit the crossbar. Mercy likewise had a late scoring chance on a corner kick in the waning moments, but Morales-Fernandez dove to his right to snare the shot and preserve the draw.
The shutout was the first of the season and 11th of Morales-Fernandez's career, extending the College record he already owns.
AIC hits the road for the first time this season on Saturday, September 16 to face the College of Staten Island at 2:00 p.m.
