MANCHESTER, New Hampshire - A second-half comeback effort fell short for the American International College women's soccer team at Southern New Hampshire University as the Yellow Jackets fell 5-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, October 7.
AIC is now 5-3-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the NE10.
The Penmen raced out to a 3-0 lead before halftime, with an Alyssa Anderson goal just 6:03 in and a pair of Carly Schofield goals at 34:39 and 40:31.
AIC's comeback effort began just shy of the hour mark of play. A free kick into the box came to Hannah Storozuk, who spun and fired across the netfront. Charlotte Bernard deflected the shot into the net easily as she was all alone on the opposite side of the cage, scoring her fourth of the season.
The duo flipped the order less than ten minutes later to get AIC within one. Storozuk knocked the ball free from a Penmen midfielder, and she and Bernard charged forward. Bernard fired a pass that allowed Storozuk to split the defense, and she blasted a shot right-to-left past the goalkeeper at 68:20 with her third of the year.
The Penmen bounced back to end the comeback shortly after, as Schofield scored just 2:30 later to cap her hat trick. Anderson added the final goal at 86:11 for the 5-2 final.
AIC returns to play at home on Saturday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. against Saint Anselm College.
