HONOLULU, Hawaii - The American International College women's volleyball team fell 22-25, 13-25, 18-25 to No. 23 Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, August 31.
AIC is 0-1 to start the season.
The first set was tightly contested. AIC built to a 13-11 lead, but the Broncos rattled off five straight before AIC countered to tie the match with four of the next five. However, another four-point run by the Broncos put the set out of reach at 21-17, as they took it on an AIC attack error.
Up 1-0, Cal Poly Pomona roared to a 13-1 lead in the second, easily taking the set 25-13 as a result.
In the third, an early six-point run put the Broncos up 8-3, and although AIC battled back to within one midway through, the Yellow Jackets never took the lead; the Broncos finished the match on a Helen McMullin kill.
Paola Soto Burgos led AIC's offense with nine kills; Alice di Francesco notched 16 assists.
AIC returns to action Friday, September 1 at 6:30 p.m. Eastern at the University of Hawaii-Hilo.
