WATERBURY, Connecticut - An early surge by Post University was the difference in an 84-69 setback for the American International College men's basketball team on Wednesday, November 16.
AIC is now 2-1 on the season.
Tyrae Washington opened the scoring, but the Eagles took over with the next 11 before Washington snapped the run with a layup at the 2:55 mark. Washington then slammed one down and Justice Ellison made a pair of baskets to cut the deficit to 13-10. Post held the lead from there, keeping it between two and six through the midpoint of the frame.
The Eagles began pulling away in the second half of the period, extending the lead to 37-22 with just over four minutes to play, and led 45-29 at the break.
Early in the half, the Eagles built their lead to 20 points, but Ellison hit a jumper and a three to shrink the gap. The Eagles then went on another run, and a Kyle Alcy dunk gave the hosts their largest lead of the game, 67-41 at 8:15 of the frame.
AIC battled hard to shrink the deficit, with a Jack Hall three cutting the deficit to 78-67 with 2:04 to play, but AIC could not get any closer.
Ellison was 11-of-14 from the floor, leading the game with 25 points. Washington had 14 and Hall notched 10, while Aguibou Balde put in 13 off the bench.
AIC opens home and Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday, November 21 at 6:30 p.m. against Bentley University.
