Series opener slips away from baseball at Adelphi
GARDEN CITY, New York – The American International College baseball team opened a four-game series at Adelphi University on Friday, March 25. The Yellow Jackets fell 16-4 in their Northeast-10 Conference opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Adelphi came out hot in the series opener. The Panthers scored three in the first, four in the second, and one in the third to take the 8-0 lead.
- In the top of the sixth inning, junior Michael Cruz reached after being hit by a pitch and was on second when junior Alejandro Mosquera dug into the box with two outs. He doubled to right-center and Cruz scored to put a run on the board for AIC.
- The Panthers answered with a run of their own in their half of the inning.
- AIC strung things together in the top of the seventh. Rookie Kiernan Caffery singled through the left on a 2-2 pitch. After a pair of outs and advancing to second on a wild pitch, senior Angel Mendez singled to third and Caffery gave AIC its second run of the game.
- Adelphi added three hits on four runs in the seventh to extend its lead.
- In the top of the eighth Cruz led the inning off with a single through the left side on the first pitch. Senior Dalton Quinn doubled to left center and Cruz was able to shade in his diamond. Mosquera grounded out to second which allowed Quinn to move to third before scoring on a wild pitch. After seven and a half innings played the Panthers led 12-4, and the hosts added four runs before the inning ended for the final score.
