NEW HAVEN, Connecticut - The American International College men's basketball team ended its 2022-23 season in the First Round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a 69-51 setback at the University of New Haven on Friday, February 24.
AIC ends the season 5-24.
Early threes by Omarion Jett-Dobbs, Aguibou Balde, and Justice Ellison helped the Yellow Jackets keep up with the veteran New Haven squad, and a second Jett-Dobbs triple put AIC ahead by four just shy of the five-minute mark. Jalen Jordan made it five from the outside and 15-10 AIC shortly after, Ellison added another, and Buka Peikrishvili also knocked one down from deep to extend the AIC lead to 21-14 at 10:59. However, the Chargers outscored AIC 20-4 down the stretch to lead 34-25 at the break.
In the second half, Ellison netted AIC's first four points, but the Chargers had an answer for every score by the Yellow Jackets. By the midpoint of the frame the New Haven lead had built to 55-38, and the Chargers added more threes to build up to a 25-point edge with five minutes to play. AIC ended the game on an 11-4 run but it was not enough as the season ended with the 69-51 tally.
Ellison netted 16 to lead AIC, while Jordan notched 11 and six rebounds. Jett-Dobbs and Jack Hall both scored eight points, with the latter also grabbing six boards.
