Robinson, Tomlinson dominant as women's basketball cruises at Saint Michael's
COLCHESTER, Vermont – The American International College women's basketball team turned in a dominating showing at Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup, defeating the Purple Knights 73-44 on Saturday, December 3.
AIC is now 3-4 on the campaign with a 2-1 NE10 mark.
Both teams shot well in the first quarter, with Taylor Tomlinson leading the way by draining four of her five attempts as the Yellow Jackets took a 20-16 lead through the first 10 minutes. The Purple Knights were able to keep it close with six points and four boards from Makayla Blake.
The second frame was a different story. After Kayla Robinson sank a three at the 3:13 mark to open the scoring, she caught fire, hitting AIC's next two buckets. Tomlinson chipped in with a layup through contact, sinking the free throw for the old-school three, and then closed the quarter with two more buckets to give AIC a 34-20 edge at the break.
The duo continued to torch the defense in the third, combining for 12 points in the first three minutes of play. The Purple Knights did break the run, but AIC kept expanding the lead, as Cierra Highland and AJ Washington each hit shots. Highland also closed out the quarter's scoring with two from the stripe, putting AIC up 57-27 after half an hour.
In the fourth, both teams used their benches, although Robinson started the quarter with her final two field goals of the day before being subbed out. Cameron Wilbur, Madison Lopez, Jasmine Love, Ahliya Phillips, and Keyani Sidberry all contributed points in the frame, and the outcome was never in doubt in the 73-44 win.
Robinson's 26 led the way for AIC, and represent a career high for her. Tomlinson also scored an AIC-best 22. The team won the rebound battle 39-29 and collected 13 steals for the fourth time this season.
AIC continues NE10 play at Le Moyne College on Tuesday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Syracuse, New York.
