Women's Volleyball trio earn All-Region accolades
LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2023 Division II All-Region honors on Wednesday, November 29. Three members of the American International College women's volleyball team earned First-Team All-Region status, with selections for Aleksandra Ivanovic, Amber Williams, and Paola Soto Burgos.
Additionally, the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association also announced its All-Region selections, and Ivanovic was named First-Team there as well.
Ivanovic was a dominating force at the front for the Yellow Jackets at middle blocker, leading not just the Northeast-10 Conference and the region but the nation with a .457 hitting percentage. She blasted down 223 kills on 407 swings and added 91 blocks and 37 aces for 314 total points across 26 matches. She was a First-Team All-NE10 selection in 2023.
Williams picked up Second-Team All-NE10 honors and like her fellow middle Ivanovic was nearly unstoppable on the attack with a .388 attack percentage that was third in the NE10, driving home 187 kills on 371 swings, and adding 65 blocks. Her 226.5 points were third on the team.
Soto Burgos, a Third-Team All-NE10 selection, earned her laurels as a right side hitter who led AIC with 258 kills. A six-rotation player, she made 313 receptions and 230 digs as well as 56 blocks, leading AIC's offense with 323 points total as the team's primary option to attack.
All three will advance to the All-America ballots for the organizations which they earned awards.
The team opens the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 30 at Adelphi University's Center for Recreation and Sport against Daemen University.
