Four from Women's Volleyball named CSC Academic All-District
GREENWOOD, Indiana - A quartet of student-athletes from the American International College women's volleyball team were named to the College Sports Communicators Division II Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Wednesday, December 13.
AIC's honorees were Dora Butkovic, Aleksandra Ivanovic, Alice Di Francesco, and Amber Williams. Click here for the full CSC release.
To qualify, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, with at least a 3.50 grade point average, and must have started in 66 percent of their team's sets or played in 90 percent of the matches.
Butkovic was a key player on the outside for the Yellow Jackets with strong numbers on both sides of the ball. She racked up 108 kills in 94 sets and contributed 33 aces while also combiling 200 digs and 10 blocks. The senior psychology major from Zagreb, Croatia currently holds a 4.00 grade point average.
Ivanovic starred for AIC, finishing second nationally with a .448 attack percentage as she compied 227 kills while playing all 99 sets. She also added 96 blocks and 68 digs as well as 37 aces. She was an AVCA All-American and earned First-Team All-Region from both the AVCA and D2CCA and was a First-Team All-Conference selection in the Northeast-10 Conference at middle blocker. The Belgrade, Serbia native is a junior with a 3.61 grade point average in marketing.
Di Francesco's first season as the starting setter for the Yellow Jackets was a successful one as she compiled 827 assists, 8.99 per set, while playing 92 of the team's 99 sets. She added 40 kills, a team-best 36 aces, and 267 digs, as well as 24 blocks on her way to Second-Team All-Conference honors from the NE10. A junior general business major from Pescara, Italy, Di Francesco has compiled a 3.74 grade point average.
Williams also dominated the middle for AIC, accumulating a .379 attack percentage that ranked 18th nationally as she put together 195 kills while also making 69 blocks for 237 points, and played in all 99 sets for AIC. She was an AVCA All-American and First-Team All-Region honoree as well as Second-Team All-Conference in the NE10. The psychology major junior from Lilburn, Georgia, has accumulated a 3.56 grade point average.
With major national recognition in addition to their academic successes, Ivanovic and Williams were advanced to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Those honorees will be announced January 9.
