COLUMBUS, Ohio - The American International College ice hockey team fell 5-2 to Ohio State University in the series finale between the teams on Saturday, October 12.
AIC is now 0-2-1 on the season.
The teams traded goals midway through the first, as Ryan Gordon scored unassisted at 9:44, but AIC bounced right back to tie things with Justin Mexico earning his first NCAA point by setting up Brett Bamber for his first AIC goal at 10:15.
The tie barely lasted two minutes before Ohio State regained the lead; Riley Thompson lit the lamp at 12:32.
The Buckeyes scored twice early in the second, with Patrick Guzzo striking at 0:20 and Max Montes at 4:08.
In the third, AIC cut back the deficit with its first power play tally of 2024-25. Josh Barnes netted his third of the weekend, set up by Danny Weight and John Lundy.
The Buckeyes closed the game out with a Damien Carfagna empty-net tally at 19:40.3 to seal the win.
Peyton Grainer made his NCAA debut, making 22 saves. AIC outshot Ohio State, 28-27.
The Yellow Jackets next visit Boston College for a tilt with the nation's second-ranked team on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m.
