SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, October 12.
AIC is now 5-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the NE10.
The Yellow Jackets had the game's first opportunity, as Gabrielle Williams was hauled down inside the 18-yard box. The center official immediately issued a yellow card and signaled for a penalty, which Rachel Newman converted for a 1-0 lead at 10:24.
The Panthers battled back, and just over ten minutes later tied the game, as Kayleigh Goodrich fired a shot from the top right just above the box that went home at 20:30.
Early in the second, the visitors broke the deadlock, as Goodrich flicked a pass across that GIa Mandile headed from the left side into the right corner of the net at 53:54.
Both teams had chances to add to their totals, as the Panthers had a free kick bounce off the crossbar and out and the Yellow Jackets had an apparent tying goal waved off for being offside. In the end, the 2-1 score stood as the final.
AIC will look to turn its fortunes in a nonconference contest on Wednesday, October 16 at Queens College for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
