QUEENS, New York - The American International College women's soccer team fell 3-1 in a nonconference contest at Queens College on Wednesday, October 16.
AIC drops to 5-5-1 overall and remains 1-3-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Queens jumped to a quick 2-0 lead with a tic-tac-toe goal by Julia Ragone from Adriana Melgar and Gabrielle Ciambella at 7:31, and then Ciambella was on the finishing end of a pass from Morgan Khadra at 10:01.
From there, the game slowed as neither team generated many chances, although Queens had a shot hit the crossbar late in the first half.
In the second half, AIC did manage to put a few shots to target, and finally broke through on a corner kick. Jocelyn Trajkovski fired the ball in from the left side, and it bounced around the box before Leya Vohra tapped it forward to Kaitlin McDonald to blast home her first of the year at 78:51.
Unfortunately, it was not meant to be for the Yellow Jackets. They put pressure on, but the Knights were able to take advantage and score an insurance goal, as Scarlet Adams put the ball in from Melgar and Brianna Obregon at 86:38 for the 3-1 final.
AIC returns home and to NE10 play on Saturday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. against Saint Michael's College.
