COLCHESTER, Vermont - The American International College field hockey team earned its second Northeast-10 Conference win in as many tries, sinking Saint Michael's College 3-1 on Wednesday, September 25.
AIC is now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NE10.
Just past the five-minute mark, AIC struck first as Mia Wood slid a pass from the left side of the stroke dot to Maddie Darling on the right side of the circle. She fired a shot back across to the left post and in, scoring her first career goal at 5:08.
In the second, AIC doubled the lead. Fenna Voll carried the ball from the left wing above the circle to the middle of the field. As she reached the top of the key, she fired a reverse shot directly at the target. Victoria Nelson was waiting at the goalmouth, and redirected the shot home for her first collegiate tally at 7:25 of the frame.
The Yellow Jackets added a third goal in the third period. Dominique Bassallo drove into the middle of the field and fired the ball into the circle, where Voll waited to gain possession. Her shot was saved, but the rebound trickled to Darling, who knocked home her second of the game at 2:52.
The Purple Knights spoiled the shutout in the last minute of regulation with a penalty stroke goal by Bridgie Loughlin at 14:21, leaving the 3-1 final.
Frederique den Hartog stopped two shots, while Voll earned a defensive save.
AIC returns to play at Ronald J. Abdow Field on Saturday, September 28 at 5:00 p.m. against Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
