SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College ice hockey team fell 4-1 to Sacred Heart University on Saturday, December 28 in its final Atlantic Hockey America match of the calendar year.
AIC falls to 5-12-1 overall and 4-8-0-0-0-2 in the AHA.
The Pioneers scored first, with Reid Pabich finishing a breakout play at 12:03 of the opening frame. AIC challenged the goal as being offside, but review was deemed inconclusive.
In the second, AIC put on strong pressure, but Sacred Heart was the only team to tally; Max Dorrington lit the lamp at 15:43.
AIC broke the shutout in the third. Just after a power play expired, David Posma set up Brett Bamber above the left faceoff dot for a one-time blast that beat Ajeet Gundarah for his third of the season at 2:14.
The Yellow Jackets could get no closer, and the Pioneers restored their two-goal edge at 9:16 as Felix Trudeau finished a two-on-one. Matt Guerra added an empty net tally at 18:19 for the 4-1 final.
Chase Clark made 34 saves in 55:24; Joey LoVullo made his NCAA debut, playing the final 1:41.
AIC returns to action on Sunday, December 29 at Quinnipiac University. Puck drop in Hamden, Connecticut is slated for 4:00 p.m.
