SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's soccer team continued its early-season run of dominance, defeating Holy Family University 2-0 on Saturday, September 14.
AIC improves to 4-0-0 for the first time since the 2013 season, when the Yellow Jackets were East Region Champions and reached the NCAA Final Four for the first time in program history.
Both teams had quality chances in the first half, including a brilliant opportunity by Gabrielle Williams that was denied, but it was AIC that struck first late in the frame. The Yellow Jackets drew a corner with just over two minutes to play in the period, and Elena Nunez served the ball in from the right side to just in front of the left post, where Nicole Kelly was able to beat the Tigers defense to get her head on the ball and knock it home for her first collegiate goal at 42:57.
In the second half, AIC quickly doubled the advantage. Drawing another corner, the Yellow Jackets sent Katelyn Oliveira to the right side. Her ball found Cameron Wilbur at the netfront, and the offensive midfielder kicked it home for her first of the season at 3:09.
AIC's goalkeepers Sara Avery and Tia Kelk combined for another shutout; Avery was credited with the win as she left after 45 minutes with a 1-0 lead, and both recorded one save.
The Yellow Jackets hit the road for the first time in 2024 on Wednesday, September 18 when they visit Bentley University.
