Women's Rugby dismantles West Chester
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's rugby team scored with high frequency in an 84-3 blowout of West Chester University in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association action on Friday, September 13.
AIC is now 1-0 and 1-0 in NIRA DII action.
Naomi Dodd struck for the first try barely a minute into the contest, but the Golden Rams countered just past the five-minute mark with a penalty kick to cut the AIC lead to 5-3.
That was as close as the game ended up being, as the Yellow Jackets quickly began touching the ball down beyond the try line. Camryn Henderson scored and converted for a 12-3 lead in the ninth minute, and then Ro'Elenoa Lagilagi crossed the line four and a half minutes later, with Henderson again booting one through.
Dodd completed a first-half hat trick with a pair of tries in the 18th and 25th minutes, with Lagilagi and Henderson both scoring kicks afterwards. Kiyanah Edwards and Morgan Schecter then found the try zone in the final ten minutes of the half; at the stoppage, AIC led 43-3.
Dodd made sure any hopes of a rally by the Golden Rams were quashed quickly, scoring just 30 seconds into the second half, and adding another shortly after for her fifth of the day.
Venise Sanft tacked on a try in the 50th minute, and then team captain Annekkia Ritter-Truxal scored in the 55th minute.
Down the stretch, Edwards and Ritter-Truxal each put in their second tries of the match, and Angel Davis finished the scoring in the final minute for the 84-3 result.
In total, Dodd led AIC with 25 points, while Henderson scored 13.
