FAIRFIELD, Connecticut - Another third-period surge pushed Sacred Heart University past the American International College ice hockey team in Atlantic Hockey America play, 6-3, on Saturday, January 18.
AIC falls to 7-15-1 overall and 5-10-0-0-0-2 in the AHA.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest as Danny Weight found Noah Serdachny loose in front of the net for a shot that went home at 1:53. Serdachny's third of the year was also assisted by Dario Beljo.
The lead lasted until the last moments of the period when Felix Trudeau tipped home a Mikey Adamson shot on the power play at 19:53.
Weight once again set up AIC for the lead, this time feeding Brett Bamber for a shot that tickled the twine for his fifth of the season at 5:39 of the second frame, with Tyler Procious earning the secondary assist.
The Pioneers tied the game a second time on a power play strike by Tyler Ghirardosi at 13:08.
In the third, Sacred Heart took the lead for the first time, with Cole Galata scoring at 6:50 and Ghirardosi adding a second at 9:04. Hunter Sansbury then scored a power play goal at 13:48.
AIC got back on the board thanks to Weight, who capped a three-point night with his third of the season at 16:51 off a feed from Tobias Larsen.
Matthew Guerra hit the empty net at 18:28 to close out the scoring.
AIC returns home to the MassMutual Center on Tuesday, January 21 at 7:05 p.m. against Bentley University.
