Women's Basketball rallies to take down Molloy
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's basketball team won a 69-62 victory over Molloy University on Sunday, November 17.
AIC is now 3-1 on the season.
The first quarter was a struggle for AIC's offense, as the Yellow Jackets did not make a field goal, and as a result trailed 14-4 at the end of the period.
In the second, AIC found its range, with Chelsea Reeves sinking five shots and scoring 12 total points, while Ruzgar Christina Boyle hit a pair of threes as part of an eight-point stretch. Both the Yellow Jackets and Lions totaled 22 in the frame, with the Lions taking the 10-point lead into the break.
Boyle took over in the third quarter, hitting all four field goals she attempted, including all three from deep, to total 12 points by herself in the frame. Nine of those came in the final 2:21 of the period, pulling AIC to within 53-50 with one quarter to go.
As the Yellow Jackets continued to feel more comfortable with the ball, the offense kept adding points. Back-to-back Keyvanna Bennett buckets tied the game 54-54 with 5:51 to play, and just under two minutes later another Bennett score put AIC ahead for the first time in the game. She added an and-one as well, and AIC never relinquished the lead from there, hitting free throws down the stretch to close a 69-62 win.
In total, Boyle led AIC with 25 points, while Reeves notched 18 and Bennett tallied 15. Bennett also made three blocks and gathered nine boards.
AIC continues the season on Saturday, November 23 at the University of Bridgeport with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
