Free throws, threes guide Falcons past Men's Basketball
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - Bentley University went 15-of-16 at the line and hit 16 threes to earn an 87-72 win over the American International College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday, Ferbuary 22.
AIC is now 3-24 overall and 2-17 in the NE10.
It was a close-fought first half, as the Falcons were led by Cooper Farrall, who scored 15 points including a perfect 7-of-7 at the line, but AIC countered with a variety of scorers. Justice Ellison led the way with 13 points, while Jack Hall scored 10 on 4-of-5 including both of his threes, and Coleman Hopson and Lovre Zaja both scored seven points, making three field goals including one from beyond the arc. At the half, Bentley led just 43-41.
The Yellow Jackets were able to take an early second half lead of 49-45 on an Ellison three from Zaja, but a Bentley rally was the response, and AIC did not score another field goal until the 8:13 mark, a Tyrae Washington layup from Ellison that cut Bentley's advantage to 58-52. AIC never pulled any closer than that, with the Falcons garnering 19 points from Cash McClure in the half to lead the way and win the game 87-72.
Overall, Ellison scored 24 to lead the game, with Hall and Zaja each netting 14. Zaja also dished out six assists. AIC shot 50.8 percent from the field, including 9-of-18 from deep.
The Yellow Jackets close the 2024-25 regular season at home on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. against Franklin Pierce University.
