Baseball drops two close contests at Flagler
SAINT AUGUSTINE, Florida - The American International College baseball team lost a pair of heartbreakers to Flagler College, 2-1 and 5-4, on Saturday, February 22.
AIC falls to 1-3 with the setbacks.
AIC scored first in the opener, as Nick Serce smacked a single to right to drive in Leandro Guevara. That lead held until the seventh when Flagler was able to push the tying run across on a sacrifice fly. Miscues then cost AIC in the ninth, as the winning run both reached and scored on an error.
Hayden Mutz had an amazing outing on the bump for AIC, scattering six hits and one walk across seven innings and striking out four.
The Saints struck first in game two on a sacrifice fly, but Serce countered in the fourth with a big fly, scoring himself and Guevara on his and AIC's first home run of the year. Cole Patterson also drove a run in for AIC with an RBI groundout.
Flager replied with two of its own in the home half of the frame, with a solo home run by Eli Maddox and an RBI single later in the inning by Jacob Reeves.
In the sixth, AIC retook the lead, as Richie Segura singled Yeudy Ramirez home after Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice and swiped second.
However, Flagler walked it off in the seventh as Maddox came through with a two-run single to give the Saints a 5-4 win.
AIC will next open a four-game series against the University of Bridgeport in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Friday, February 28 at 3:00 p.m.
