WORCESTER, Massachusetts - The American International College men's basketball team fell 88-64 to Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption University on Wednesday, February 19.
AIC is now 3-23 overall and 2-16 in the NE10.
Assumption rolled out to a 10-2 lead, forcing a pair of early timeouts by AIC, as the Greyhounds took advantage of makes from deep. A later triple by Jamal Barnes gave the hosts a 19-6 cushion, and at the midpoint of the half the Greyhounds led 24-10.
The run continued for Assumption as the home squad added another 11 before Lovre Zaja broke the run. AIC was able to trim the lead somewhat, thanks in part to an and-one by Justice Ellison and a pair of threes by Chase Nelson from Kanye Wavezwa, but still trailed 47-27 at the halftime break.
Both teams hit several shots early in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets could not significantly close in on the home team, which made the shots it needed to to earn the victory.
Ellison led AIC with 19 points; Jack Hall notched 12, while Zaja scored 10 and posted six rebounds and five assists.
AIC will celebrate its Senior Day with its next home game, a 3:30 p.m. tip-off against Bentley University on Saturday, February 22.
