Men's Volleyball swept by Dominican in ECC opener
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team dropped its East Coast Conference opener 13-25, 22-25, 20-25 to Dominican University on Wednesday, February 26.
AIC is now 2-10 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.
The Chargers quickly established a 4-1 lead and held off the Yellow Jackets in the first set with strong hitting. Multiple four-point runs and a sideout percentage above 90 helped the visitors need just 20 attack attempts to take the opener.
AIC settled in in the second set, and stayed close by taking advantage of a series of service errors by the Chargers. A late Connor White ace gave the Yellow Jackets hope, but the Chargers were able to finish the set to earn a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Dominican fell behind early, but the set swung on a four-point run that turned a 9-7 Chargers deficit into an 11-9 lead. The Yellow Jackets kept it close, but did not score back-to-back points again, as the Chargers completed the sweep.
Willie Lopez Morales led AIC with eight kills. Aidan Miller dished out 19 assists.
AIC will continue its season with another ECC tilt at Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, March 1 at 11:00 a.m.
