GARDEN CITY, New York - The American International College women's basketball team lost 52-28 to Adelphi University in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament First Round on Friday, February 28.
AIC ends the season at 13-16.
Scoring was slow in the opening half, as Chelsea Reeves scored the only two AIC field goals, but Adelphi only managed to hit five, and after one led 11-5. Similarly, the second quarter saw just two points for each team in the first 7:20 before Reeves knocked down a three. AIC pulled within two before a last-second and-one gave Adelphi an 18-13 edge at halftime.
Adelphi finally began to connect late in the third quarter, with back-to-back scoring possessions. AIC scored 10 points in the period total, but the Panthers extended their lead to 31-23 after 30 minutes.
The hosts put the game out of reach early in the third quarter with a pair of threes around a two to get ahead 39-24 less than two minutes in, and from there continued to score and finished out the win.
Reeves led AIC with 16 points and also pulled down eight boards. Keyvanna Bennett snared a game-best 12 rebounds, while Rhaymi Porter took nine more.
