LANDISVILLE, Pennsylvania – The American International College women's rugby team won its fourth consecutive Frostbite 7s title, winning the earliest season qualifier for the Collegiate Rugby Championship with victories on March 1-2.
The first match of the day was against Penn State University and the Yellow Jackets made quick work of the Nittany Lions, with Morgan Schechter and Naomi Dodd scoring twice and Talimaia Fuala'au adding a try as well in a 35-5 win.
Dodd also led AIC against Wheeling University, scoring another two. Sa'Tya Miller added her name to the scoresheet, and Venise Sanft hit three conversions in the 31-0 blanking.
AIC next battled Niagara, and the scoring was even more rapid. Gabrielle Miller scored two tries, and five other players touched the ball down at least once, with Fuala'au adding eight more points on conversions as the Yellow Jackets blew out the Purple Eagles 44-0.
AIC did drop the final match of pool play, a tight 21-19 defeat against West Chester University, but advanced to the semifinal to face Wheeling again. Dodd and Kiyanah Edwards each scored twice, as did Sara Doyle, Miller, and Sanft, while Camryn Henderson booted three conversions and AIC took out Wheeling 38-15 to reach the final.
The Yellow Jackets once more matched up with Penn State, and AIC roared past the Nittany Lions. Dodd scored three of AIC's seven tries, and Henderson and Sanft each made two kicks as the Yellow Jackets left no doubt, claiming their fourth straight trophy with a 43-0 victory.
