Acrobatics and Tumbling wins first heat in program history in dual with Caldwell
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - In any infancy, whether a living creature or in the metaphoric sense of a first-year college athletic program, there will be growing pains and remarkable milestones. Both were on display on Thursday, February 27 as the American International College acrobatics and tumbling team hosted its first-ever home meet, falling to Caldwell University 203.675 - 31.075.
The result was a near doubling of the team score from AIC's first meet at Georgian Court University mere weeks before.
AIC's strongest showing in a single event came in the 5-element acro heat, where the Yellow Jackets scored 7.80 points out of the 12.05 they posted in their three events in the acro portion of the meet.
The Yellow Jackets also recorded a program first, taking the duo pass of the tumbling event as Esperanza Rivera and Miranda Pues combined to score 6.40 points against the Caldwell pair that netted their team 5.70 points. That marked the first time that AIC had outscored an opponent in any individual heat of a match.
Pues also scored a 6.825 in the open pass heat of the tumbling event; in total, AIC earned 15.225 points in tumbling alone, nearly matching the 16.625 they scored for the entire dual at Georgian Court.
The two teams will meet again at Caldwell University on March 11.
