Men's Volleyball swept in home finale by STAC
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College men's volleyball team lost a 17-25, 16-25, 22-25 battle with East Coast Conference rival Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, March 29 at the Henry Butova Gymnasium.
AIC is now 4-16 overall and 0-4 in the ECC.
Though the early stages of the match were close, the Spartans used a seven-point run to expand a 9-8 lead to 16-8. AIC burned both of its first-set timeouts to try to stop the rally, but the gap proved too much as the Spartans finished the set with an ace after holding the Yellow Jackets off.
The second saw the Spartans build a 10-6 lead early, and though AIC was able to tie the score at 12-12 thanks to a strong run including a pair of blocks, the Spartans responded with a three-point run and two four-point stretches, pulling ahead 23-14 and ultimately taking the second.
With the match on the line, AIC battled and kept the third close all the way to 19-19. The Spartans led, though never by more than two, until the final point of the match when a Gabriel Vieira kill finished the win for the visiting squad.
Willie Lopez Morales led the match with 13 kills, while Fabian Lugo made nine digs. Both Aidan Miller and Rian Woods dished out a dozen assists.
AIC plays its final nonconference regular season game of the season on Wednesday, April 2 at Nichols. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
