
O'Neal, Jeffries-Hazard win events to lead track at Springfield Outdoor Invite
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College track and field teams competed at the Springfield College Outdoor Invitational on Sunday, April 6.
On the women's side, Monique Malcom took second in the 100-meter dash in 13.13 seconds and then finished fifth in the 200-meter dash at 27.77 seconds. Lillie Kaempfe crossed the line in eighth in the 800-meter run at 3:00.06.
In the throws, Serenity Mayhew scored by finishing fifth in the shot put at 10.29 meters, while Ella Fong threw the javelin 31.40 meters, finishing fifth.
Mike Ricketts grabbed points for the men in the 100-meter dash in 11.22 seconds for sixth and also in the 200-meter dash, finishing eighth in 23.01 seconds. Anthony Edokpa took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 53.54 seconds. Chris Dias ran the 5,000-meter run in 16:52.02, good for sixth as well.
Joel Lisoma performed well in the hurdles, scoring in the 110 and 400. He took third in the 110-hurdles at 15.85 seconds and then was fifth in the 400-hurdles in 1:03.42. Lisoma also ran the first leg of AIC's sixth-place 4x400-meter relay, joining Edokpa, Ben Stevenson, and Evan Fitzgerald to combine for a 3:49.36 time.
AIC's field unit shined. ToRae Wright took third in the triple jump at 12.25 meters, and AIC had two winners on the day in Malachi O'Neal, who posted a 6.75 meter long jump, and Kareem Jeffries-Hazard with a 51.92 meter hammer throw. The latter was the top distance in the event this season among all NE10 athletes.
AIC returns to action on Friday, April 11 at the Queens College Invitational.
