Top three! Women's Rugby nabs bronze at CRC 7s Championship
BOYDS, Maryland - The American International College women's rugby team took home a program-best third-place finish at the 2025 Collegiate Rugby Championship National 7s Tournament on April 26-27.
AIC went 3-1 in the tournament.
The Yellow Jackets were clinical in dismantling Norwich University 53-0 in the opener. Five players scored tries, including a Naomi Dodd hat trick and two by Kiyanah Edwards, as the Yellow Jackets easily advanced to the quarterfinal.
Wheeling University put up more of a fight, but AIC dispatched their opposition 31-14; Dodd and Edwards were joined in try scoring by Ro'Elenoa Lagilagi and Talimaia Fuala'au, while Venise Sanft chipped home three conversions. The win put AIC in the national semifinal for the second year in a row.
Army West Point was the semifinal opponent on the second day, and the Black Knights scored twice with big plays to take a 10-0 lead into halftime. Dodd scored to cut the lead down to five, but AIC could not score again in the 15-5 setback.
In the third-place match, AIC faced a strong Penn State University squad. The team had fallen short in this contest a year prior and ensured that it would not miss a podium finish again, as Lagilagi, Fuala'au, and Dodd scored, as did Morgan Schechter, thanks to an impressive run and stiffarm to beat a defender deep down the field; AIC held on to win 22-14 and take third.
Dodd led the tournament in scoring with six tries and 30 points, while Sanft and Camryn Henderson were among the top converters with four and three, respectively. AIC scored 111 points total, and allowed just 43.
