Hall nets first collegiate goal as Women's Lacrosse falls to Bridgeport
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's lacrosse team lost a 19-11 nonconference matchup with the University of Bridgeport on Monday, March 31.
AIC is now 2-9 on the season.
The first quarter was tightly contested; Bridgeport scored the first three goals, but Isabelle Stone countered back with a pair of free position tallies. The Purple Knights notched the final goal of the frame for a 4-2 lead after one.
The first five minutes of the second continued to be close; Stone set up Gabrielle Walz for an early goal, and then after Bridgeport hit the net twice, Robin Trombly found the twine at 4:20 to bring AIC back within two. However, Bridgeport rolled from there, scoring five times to take an 11-4 lead into the break.
Out of halftime, Jordyn Galgay started the scoring at the 1:00 mark, and though Bridgeport countered 19 seconds later, Galgay and Stone each notched two points, with Stone scoring a pair and Galgay setting one up and finishing a feed from Walz to cut the deficit to 12-8 at 5:43.
AIC's next goal came late in the period, as senior defender Faith Hall, who had joined the offensive unit, drew a free position bid. She aimed low left, and the fourth-year defender sank her first collegiate tally at 12:05, bringing her team within three.
The Purple Knights rebounded to notch the last goal of the third and then five goals in 5:30 in the fourth; Trombly set up Galgay and then Stone finished a feed from Galgay late for AIC's two tallies in the final period, but the visitors grabbed the 19-11 win.
Walz reached the milestone of 100 career draw controls won, becoming the ninth Yellow Jacket to do so as she took the opening draw of the second half.
Maggie Kloster was strong in the setback, making 17 saves, one shy of her career high.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday, April 8 at New Haven for a 4:00 p.m. start.
