Baseball bounces back to beat Pace in series finale
PLEASANTVILLE, New York - The American International College baseball team earned an 11-6 Northeast-10 Conference win at Pace University on Sunday, April 6.
AIC is now 12-13 overall and 6-4 in the NE10.
The Yellow Jackets offense rallied for five runs, scoring all of them with two outs, in the second frame. Josh Frometa led off with a walk, and after two fly outs, Aidan Streeter also walked. Cole Patterson singled up the middle to score Frometa, and Brendan Edvardsen loaded the bases with a single. Sam Tanous then doubled into the right-center gap to drive home Patterson and Streeter, and Leandro Guevara drove Edvardsen and Tanous home with another single up the middle.
In the fourth, AIC added two more with a big fly, as Edvardsen smashed his first home run of the year to left, also scoring Streeter, who had led off with a walk. Tanous then put down a bunt single and stole second, scoring AIC's eighth run as Nick Serce drove a single to center.
Pace started chipping away with two in the seventh and three in the eighth, but Serce ended any hopes of a home comeback in the ninth with a three-run shot to right after Tanous walked and Guevara singled to left. The Setters did notch one in the bottom half for the 11-6 final.
Tim Krol was strong in the win, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts in seven frames.
AIC returns home for a nonconference game against Assumption University on Tuesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
