Adelphi bounces back, takes two from Baseball
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College baseball team lost a Northeast-10 Conference game 6-0 and a nonconference game 11-6 in eight innings to Adelphi University on Saturday, March 29.
AIC is now 10-10 overall and 5-2 in the NE10, leading the Southwest Division.
Three hits in the first inning put the Panthers on the board in the first inning of game one, and that ended up being the winning run as the Yellow Jackets were held to just three hits.
Adelphi added four runs in the fifth, effectively putting the game out of reach, and tacked on one more in the sixth for the 6-0 final.
The Panthers also scored the first three runs of the second game, but Leandro Guevara broke AIC's offensive drought with a home run to pull the Yellow Jackets within 3-1.
Adelphi notched two in the top of the seventh for a 5-1 lead, but the Yellow Jackets responded again. Justin Oquendo and Brendan Edvardsen both singled and Josh Frometa was hit by a pitch, bringing the tying run to the dish. Yeudy Ramirez hit a fly to right to bring a run home, and then Nick Serce walked to reload the bases. Kiernan Caffrey, who had hit a walk-off home run the day before, smacked a two-run single, and two batters later, Ryan Hemenway hit a sacrifice fly to tie the contest.
Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, that was as close as the game ended up being. The Panthers rebounded with six runs in the top of the eighth, and although AIC scratched a run across as Oquendo hit a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch, the final stood at 11-6.
AIC breaks from NE10 action to play a pair of road games at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, April 2 beginning at noon.
