HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After both teams struggled to score early on, the Purple Knights broke through with two goals in a 1:27 stretch. AIC responded with solo efforts from Robin Trombly and Liz Day, and five saves by Jessica Stone kept the score 2-2 after one.
- Saint Michael's scored two quick tallies early in the second, but just 22 seconds after the guests went ahead 4-2, Day scored a free position goal, and followed it up with another to tie the game.
- Darby Rich and Erin Stolz each scored, pushing the Purple Knights back ahead 6-4 with 5:48 left in the half, but AIC grabbed control of the game thereafter. Molly Leavitt struck just 20 seconds after Stolz, and Day set up Kathryn Moody on a power play to tie the game 6-6 at 10:21. Antonella Mikolyuk then found Jordyn Galgay for a strike sixty seconds later to put AIC ahead for the first time. Day connected with Leavitt, and Madi Bis finished the half with a free position goal at 14:57, giving the hosts a 9-6 lead at the break.
- Though Hannah Bishop scored early for the Purple Knights, the third belonged to AIC. AIC scored eight times in the frame, including a pair by Mikolyuk and four by Moody, the latter two of which Mikolyuk set up. Day and Trombly each scored as well as AIC led 17-8 at the break.
- In the final quarter, AIC put a bow on the win, as Kaitlyn Morris and Sam Giordano each hit the net, and Day punctuated the contest with a free position goal at 14:37 for the 20-10 win.
NOT AN ORDINARY ROOKIE:
- Mikolyuk's nine draw controls put her at 79 for the season.
- That total is second in AIC's program history for a single campaign, behind only the 92 won by Cheyenne Carden in the 2015 season.
- It also ranks 10th in a career in the history of the team.
HAVE A DAY:
- Day's free-position strike in the last moments of the game not only gave AIC 20 goals for the game, it was her 20th goal of the season.
- She now has 50 career tallies.
NEXT UP:
- AIC's home finale is Wednesday, April 27 against The College of Saint Rose at 7:00 p.m.
