Bio
American International College named Rob Kearney to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance in August 2024.
Kearney is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the sports medicine and performance program at AIC.
Kearney’s experience in the world of athletics and athletic training is extensive. He served as an athletic trainer at nearby Springfield Central High School beginning in August 2023, and has been the head athletic trainer for the men’s club ice hockey program at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst since 2014. He previously worked in the Palmer Public School system and as the head athletic trainer at the Williston Northampton School and the Eaglebrook School.
On top of athletic training experience, Kearney has been the head strength coach at HWPO Training since 2022 and was the director of strength and conditioning at Deerfield Academy from 2015-17.
Kearney understands what it takes to be a successful high-level athlete. In 2023, he finished third in the American’s Strongest Man competition, and has a personal record of 961 pounds in the deadlift. He has competed in the World’s Strongest Man competition five times and the Arnold Strongman Classic three times.
He carries a number of certifications and licenses, including an athletic training certification and CPR/AED/First Responder certification, and is a Massachusetts Licensed Athletic Trainer. He is also an OUT Foundation Ambassador and previously was the Massachusetts State Representatie for the NATA LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee.
Kearney earned a bachelor’s of science in athletic training from Springfield College in 2013, and followed with a master’s of science in advanced athletic training with a concentration in athletic rehabilitation from Springfield in 2015.
