No. 23 Bentley defeats women's lacrosse
SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts - The American International College women's lacrosse team fell 15-6 to No. 23 Bentley University in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday, March 1.
AIC is now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NE10.
The Falcons rolled to a 5-0 lead before AIC scored late in the first, as Liz Day put home a pass from Robin Trombly at 14:52.
In the second, Day scored AIC's lone goal, a free position bid, but the Falcons notched two man-up markers and led 8-2 at the break.
Bentley pulled away in the third with six straight to build to a 14-2 lead before AIC began to claw back, as Anevay Rice scored with five seconds to go in the period.
The Yellow Jackets played their best lacrosse in the fourth. Gabrielle Walz drew a free position attempt and converted early on, and then Day found Kathryn Moody loose in front for a goal. Moody then set up arguably the nicest goal of the day, as Antonella Mikolyuk drove to the net and took defenders with her; Moody passed over her to Jordyn Galgay, who had been left open at the top of the eight-meter arc, and she was able to fire home AIC's fourth straight goal. Bentley did net one more late for the 15-6 final.
In net, Marissa Long was a stalwart, stopping a career-best 18 shots, holding the Falcons off on five free position bids.
AIC's next scheduled game, originally set for Saturday, March 4 at noon against Post University, has been postponed due to impending inclement weather. The team will therefore next head to the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, March 11 for a 3:00 p.m. start.
